Visitor Services In Meekatharra
We’re an RV-friendly town. There is plenty of accommodation, food, groceries, tyre & mechanical services, chemist, GP, hospital and more - just ask, and grab a map & directory from most outlets in town. Be aware that many businesses are family-run and are therefore closed on Saturday afternoons and Sundays.
HELP
24 hour medical help is available at the hospital emergency department.
There is a veterinarian who visits once a month. Most vets will help over the phone.
Tyres and mechanical services are available during normal business hours.
If all else fails, ask for help at one of the pubs; there’s usually a local who’ll lend a hand.
TOILET DUMP
Located in the laneway behind the Welcome Park off Main Street
at the south end of town.
WATER
Our water is very high in nitrites and calcium - “hard water”. Long term use can affect water lines etc in caravans, but it is potable and fine for short term use. You can fill up at the Welcome Park located in Main Street, and at the Information Bay, also on Main Street,
next to the grassy creek area at the southern end of town.
CAMPING
Self-sufficient free camping is permitted at Peace Gorge, just a few kilometres from town off the Landor/Carnarvon road. This is a cultural site and must be treated with respect! You must have your own chemical toilet and you must not leave any rubbish behind. Camp at your own risk and be aware that there are risks to humans and pets when in the outback.
RUBBISH
Anything larger than a small kitchen bin bag of rubbish should be taken to the town tip at the northern end of town. There is no charge for using the tip.
RECYCLING
You can drop off recyclables (paper, glass, aluminum cans) at the CRC during the day, and at Meeka Goes Green on Saturdays between 9 and 11 am. They are located in Railway Street next to Haveluck Court (grab a map from most outlets in town).
